about

Following RSY-Netzer, this is how we render the call to prayer and congregation's response on most weeks. Sometimes we use another, which begins 'lai, lai, lai la lai' and is popular in Noam. There is also a traditional melody in 'Magen Avot' nusakh.

The rendition on this track can lend great stature to the call to prayer as a pivotal moment in the service, beginning with a niggun-like wordless melody sung by the rising congregation to prepare ourselves emotionally for the Sha"tz's call. Harmonically the music is very well unified with the traditional Ashkenazi sound-world of Shabbat Ma'ariv nusakh ('Magen Avot').
